I was sick one week with larangytus and so recovered from that. Then the week before last I was not able to record the audio again. So it has been two weeks and it is good to get back on track.
We are still in the same series "The Making of Man After God's Own Heart". This week we spoke of the forgiveness of David and Jonathan's Son Mephibosheth.
The title this week was "Keeping Covenant"
David never harmed Saul, even when he had the chance. He looked for a way to keep his promise to Jonathan, even though most of Saul's house was hostile towards him and would not let the issue be resolved. Michal Saul's daughter, who had been married to David, had been given to another. During this time David brought her home though she was so bitter towards him he never gave her a child. Abner had made a deal with David but Joab killed Abner unbeknownst to David.
When you are trying to keep covenant the devil will come with every way imaginable to stop you. Still, David gave us an example in trusting God he was delivered through each snare set before him. We can do likewise.
David found Mephibosheth in Lodebar and brought him to eat from his own table. He also gave him all the land which belonged to Saul. Mephibosheth remained faithful to David even through the war with Absolom, David's son. Ziba who was Mephibosheth's head servant slandered his mater and left him looking as though he had betrayed David. David was also attacked by Shimei during this time, who thought Absolom would win the war. David forgave the son of Benjamin and when he found Mephibosheth and the truth was uncovered Mephibosheth forgave Ziba.
This is is an important part of a man of God. We should always have a heart which seeks reconciliation. We can't expect our enemies to want the same but we should always be willing to offer it. We have been forgiven so much we ought to also be able to forgive.
